Salvador Dalí painted The Persistence of Memory in 1931, and it is small: 24 by 33 centimeters. It was first shown at the Julien Levy Gallery in 1932 and has hung at the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1934. MoMA calls the soft watches the camembert of time, in Dalí’s own phrase. It sold there for $250.
Created with 3,611 shapes placed by hand. At full size on your canvas it can be as large as you like.
