About this Dogs Playing Poker board

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge painted a series of 16 oil paintings of dogs in human scenes in 1903, commissioned by the advertising firm Brown & Bigelow to sell cigars. They ran on wall calendars and cigar boxes. Sources count between nine and eleven of the sixteen as card games, and critics long dismissed the series as kitsch.

Created with 3,611 shapes placed by hand. Zoom in on the faces: a few clear shapes for eyes and nose are enough to keep each dog readable from far away.
