Coca-Cola says its 1931 ads shaped the Santa we know today. The company hired the illustrator Haddon Sundblom, who drew on Clement Clark Moore’s 1822 poem and painted a warm Santa with rosy cheeks, a white beard and laughter lines. His last Coca-Cola Santa ad ran in 1964. Before that, Thomas Nast’s 1862 Santa for Harper’s Weekly was a small, elflike figure.
Created with 13 lines, 11 shapes and 1 frame placed by hand. The face sits on a green background.
